Teresa Heinz Kerry Hospitalized With Unknown Medical Condition

Teresa Heinz Kerry, wife of Secretary of State John Kerry, has been hospitalized at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Kerry was on the island of Nantucket when she was rush by ambulance to Nantucket Cottage Hospital accompanied by her husband.

Teresa Heinz Kerry arrived at the hospital in critical condition but was stabilized by doctors on Sunday afternoon.

Regarding Teresa Heinz Kerry’s hospitalization, spokesman Glen Johnson released the following statement:

“The family is grateful for the outpouring of support it has received and aware of the interest in her condition, but they ask for privacy at this time.”

Kerry wed her husband in 1995, four years after her first husband died when his plane collided with a helicopter. During the 2004 presidential campaign, Kerry Heinz was a standard bearer for her party as her husband ran for the party’s Democratic nomination. Two years prior, Teresa Heinz Kerry switched over to the Democratic party in order to protest GOP attacks against Democratic Senator Max Cleland.

Thanks to her Heinz fortune, which was inherited from her first husband Heinz, Kerry’s wealth has been estimated somewhere in the vicinity of $750 million as of a 2004 Forbes magazine study.

In 2009, Teresa Heinz Kerry was treated for breast cancer after undergoing her annual mammogram screening. Kerry underwent lumpectomies in both breasts at a Washington hospital.

Since her first husband died in 2001, Heinz Kerry has devoted much of her time to philanthropic areas of interest. Last year, John Kerry gave five percent of his earnings to charity, and his wife’s foundations donated even more.

John Kerry was scheduled back in Washington today after nearly two-weeks traveling around Mideast and Southwest Asia. John Kerry is supposed to meet with Treasury Secretary Jack Lew to take part in high-level strategic and economic talks with senior Chinese officials on Wednesday and Thursday.

Our best wishes go out to Teresa Heinze Kerry and her family.
