Indiana Man Faces More Charges In Freezer Slaying

Kokomo, IN – A central Indiana man, 52-year-old Walter Logan, is facing additional charges of attempting deviate conduct, reckless homicide, and confinement – all tacked on to his original murder indictment.

The added criminal penalties stem from a freezer related slaying Logan allegedly committed back in November. Investigators believe Logan killed his friend, 29-year-old Alex Shipp, and stuffed the man’s body into an unplugged freezer.

Police were first made aware of the missing young man in early December, when his mother told them she’d not heard from Shipp in nearly a month, reports the Huffington Post.

An investigation led police to Logan’s home where they found the badly decomposed remains of Shipp’s otherwise intact body inside an unplugged freezer.

Court documents indicate Logan told authorities he and Shipp had known one another for a couple of years and had a sexual relationship. One night, the two men drank, did drugs, and had sex. Thereafter, Shipp became belligerent and spurred on a fight.

In an effort to diffuse the brewing argument, Logan said he bound Shipp’s hands and feet and placed duct tape over his nose and mouth. Logan told investigators he then tried to kill himself with pills and wrote a suicide note, but fell asleep before he could finish writing it.

The next morning, when Logan awoke, he found Shipp dead. Logan waited several hours before stowing his lover’s body in the freezer.

Investigators said even if Logan hadn’t intended to kill Shipp, he should have realized that covering his mouth and nose with tape so he couldn’t breathe would cause death.

The amended charges, imposed by Howard County Deputy Prosecutor Jeremy Peelle, were filed last week prior to Logan’s trial, prompting the defense to request a continuance, reports MSN.

A judge rescheduled the trial for October 7. Logan is being held in the county jail without bond. Prosecutors have not said whether they will seek the death penalty or life in prison without parole.
