‘The Last Of Us’ Patched To Remove Phone Sex Hotline Numbers, Fix Multiplayer Issues

Yesterday, Naughty Dog deployed a patch for The Last of Us which added in a number of fixes and gameplay improvements for the game’s multiplayer components – and to also remove a couple of real phone sex hotline numbers that somehow made their way into the singleplayer game.

The naughty numbers were found posted on a bulletin board and, as the game’s creative director Neil Druckmann told Kotaku, were completely unintentional.

“That was an artist’s mistake,” Druckmann told the site. “What happened was, they put some phone numbers in the game and then they thought they could just change the area code to 555, then it’s invalid because it’s what they do in movies. But I guess that doesn’t work when you have a 1-800 in front of it.”

Apparently not. A number of gamers called the number, expecting that each one had something to do with the game. Several games have done this in the past, but that wasn’t the case this time around.

Apart from the patch removing the accidental phone sex hotline numbers, The Last of Us patch 1.02 also adds in some much-needed multiplayer fixes, as mentioned above. Some key improvements include better host migration, and an overall improvement in connectivity issues.

Here are the full multiplayer patch notes, as per Naughty Dog:

Technical

– Host migration has been improved. Losing connection to the host during a migration should occur less often
– General crash when leaving multiplayer fixed
– Intro camera fix for some introductory cut-scenes
– Connectivity issues while playing have been tuned
– If you disconnect or lose connection to the host, you will no longer advance a clan day. You will only advance a day if you are kicked from the match, or exit through the menu

Gameplay

– Explosion Expert level 2 should be selectable now
– The voting time for match selection has been reduced to 15 seconds
– “No party” playlist options have been added to both Supply Raid and Survivors, players can only join this playlist solo
– Melee against a downed character now uses the same range as normal melee
