Tim Hardaway Jr. Joins New York Knicks

Fans of the New York Knicks aren’t used to cheering anyone wearing a Hardaway jersey. That’s going to change, however, now that Tim Hardaway Jr. is on the team.

Hardaway Jr.’s father was one of the central figures in the Miami Heat / New York Knicks rivalry during the 1990s. The Knicks know that Hardaway Sr. can compete at the highest level and they’re hoping that Hardaway Jr. has the same work ethic.

Knicks general manager Glen Grunwald said: “He’s obviously got some good bloodlines from someone who had a great NBA career… We think we added a good piece to our team, talented, good worker, good athlete who comes from a great program.”

The Knicks could lose J.R. Smith during free agency this year and New York is expecting Hardaway to step up immediately.

Grunwald said: “We were looking for someone who could contribute right away next year, filling a need on our team but the primary reason we drafted him is he was the best player available. It’s also true we only have two players under contract for guards.”

Father Hardaway hasn’t commented on the draft yet but Hardaway Jr.’s agent said that the former NBA player was thrilled to see his son drafted by the New York Knicks.
