The title of Mariah Carey’s upcoming album may have been dropped accidentally by Walmart.
According to the retailer’s website, the new album is titled “The Art of Letting Go.”
While Carey herself has remain tightlipped about the album’s title, she did drop a hint of her own that seemed to jibe with the name used on the Walmart website. Carey tweeted, “…Melancholic moment letting go of something this personal to me yet I couldn’t be more excited to give three years of my soul to the fans.”
In March 2011, it was announced that Carey had written a song called “Save the Day” for a new album. Two months later, husband Nick Cannon revealed that she had started working on the album already and had recorded a good portion during her pregnancy — Carey gave birth to twins Moroccan and Monroe in April 2011.
In July 2012, Randy Jackson announced that he and Carey completed seven songs for the album. Jackson was Carey’s manager up until last month, when the former American Idol judges and longtime collaborators parted ways. Jackson had been managing Carey’s career since 2011, and even helped her secure a record-setting $18 million deal with American Idol. The two reportedly split due to “hectic” schedules.
Carey announced the release date for her new album earlier this month, and the record is set to hit shelves July 23. Carey’s fourteenth studio album, The Art of Letting Go (if that is its title), will be the 43-year-old’s first in four years.
All of this follows the success of her new single, “#Beautiful,” featuring Miguel. Last week, the clean and explicit versions were downloaded a combined 95,514 time, bringing the sales total to date up to 485,854. The song has peaked at #15 — up from #17 last week — on the Billboard Hot 100, and has been on the chart for five weeks.
