fremantle media logoAmerican Idol producer FremantleMedia has signed a deal with Google to produce exclusive programming for YouTube.

Under the deal, FremantleMedia will establish two content channels on YouTube: a family oriented web only channel, and another for content linked to its TV shows. FremantleMedia will split advertising revenue with YouTube on every video show.

FremantleMedia had previously experimented with YouTube as a tie-in to existing shows including official YouTube channels for the UK talent contest The X Factor and the bizarre Australian game show Hole in the Wall.

Like previous YouTube deals, FremantleMedia has committed to working with Google to better deal with copyright infringing material, including the option of leaving such material up and monetizing it instead.
