Stanford Engineering Library Throws Away 70,000 Volumes

The Stanford Engineering Library has announced the disposal of 70,000 volumes this week, leaving the library with 10,000 books on their shelves.

While the announcement may be enough to give some librarians a heart attack, the move actually makes sense. According to NPR, the school removed periodicals which were used for quick references, references that are now easily accessible using the internet.

The school was also quick to point out that most of the periodicals found in the library hadn’t been removed from their shelves in over five years.

Librarians at the engineering library are said to be excited as they now have a lot more room to bring in books their visitors may actually take off the shelves, perhaps even check-out.
