Last Halo 2 squatter turfed out by Microsoft

Exactly 26 days ago, Microsoft shut down Xbox Live for the original Xbox. Amongst other things, that meant no more Halo 2, which still enjoyed a healthy online following at the time.

While the rest of the world simply shrugged and moved on, 16 intrepid gamers refused to let go of their beloved Halo 2. Instead, they kept their consoles powered on and connected to the game’s online mode, remaining permanantly logged in until they were either kicked off or their Xbox 360 consoles died.

Well today, the last Halo 2 diehard fell. Xbox Live member “Apache N4SIR” posted the following on the Bungie.net forums:

“May 11th @ 0158hrs I was FORCEFULLY REMOVED!! I thought I’d be the one turning off the lights but that was done for me. Good night everyone, My [Xbox 360] Elite needs a rest.”

Yep, he was booted off in the end. That means his Xbox 360 was on for almost a month straight, and yes, I’m also astounded it didn’t catch fire. A brave effort, Apache!
