‘The Flintstones’ Team Up With WWE Studios For Animated Movie

Believe it or not, this thing is actually happening. Warner Bros. and WWE Studios are teaming up to produce an all-new animated flick specifically for the direct-to-video market. The movie is expected to arrive on one format or another in 2015.

According to Deadline, Fred, Barney, and the gang will be joined by Bedrock versions of WWE wrestlers. The iconic characters will rub elbows with the likes of McMagma (Vince McMahon), John Cenastone (John Cena), and CM Punkrock (CM Punk). The story itself will be centered around some sort of Stone Age wrestling event. No big surprise there.

Oddly enough, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson won’t be taking part in WWE Studios’ Flintstones movie. Although his name was tailor-made for such an endeavor, his price tag might be a little too high for a straight-to-video movie.

The Wrap reports that the company is also working with Warner Bros. to produce a Scooby Doo movie featuring a plethora of wrestling superstars. The project is expected to make its debut on home video shortly before Wrestlemania XXX.

“WWE is family-friendly entertainment, so partnering with Warner Bros on a Flintstones/WWE project was a natural extension of our ‘Scooby Doo’ deal. This new, animated feature allows us to showcase our brand with young fans and loyal ‘Flintstones’ enthusiasts alike,” WWE Studios President Michael Luisi said in a statement.

These animated ventures aren’t the only projects the company has in the works. In addition to a fair amount of direct-to-video action flicks — 12 Rounds: Reloaded hits DVD next month — WWE Studios is also putting together a reboot of the 90s horror flick Leprechaun.

The Inquisitr previously reported that On the Lot contestant and visual effects specialist Zach Lipovsky has been tapped for the gig. The movie will likely arrive at some point next year.
