Tracy Morgan To Host 2013 Billboard Music Awards

Tracy Morgan will be hosting the 2013 Billboard Music Awards next month.

“I’m honored to be a part of one of music’s biggest nights,” the Saturday Night Live alum said. “When you look at the artists who have come up through Billboard over the years, it’s incredible. And how can you say no when Prince is going to be there!”

Performers for the awards show, which will air live from MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 19, include Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, and Miguel. Prince will be receiving the Billboard Icon Award during the telecast, which is produced by Don Mischer and sponsored by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and Chevrolet.

The four aforementioned artists are up for the Milestone Award, which gives fans the chance to vote for their favorite artist online. Fans can also enter a contest to win a chance to present the award along with Cee Lo Green. Also up for the award are the Band Perry and Pitbull. Voting for the award is now open at Billboard.com/milestone.

Morgan recently found himself in hot water, when fans attending one of his stand-up performances in Melbourne, Australia, staged a massive walkout over sexism in the comedian’s routine. Critics called the material insulting and said the show was unfunny, over-priced, and misogynistic. After the performance, Melinda Tankard Reist, who operates the women’s rights group Collective Shout, announced a boycott against Morgan’s remaining appearances Monday and Tuesday.

“It was good to know at least some people walked out. Even better would be if those planning to attend his gig at the Regal Theatre tomorrow night boycotted it,” she said. “Collective Shout is calling on Regal Theatre to not give Morgan a platform for Morgan’s misogynist hate speech.”

Do you think Tracy Morgan will be a good host? Should he still be hosting after the accusations of sexism?
