UFL to expand to Lone Star State

As the UFL prepares for season number two, we know that they were going to add two teams, at a press conference yesterday to introduce Jay Gruden as the new Head Coach of the Florida Tuskers UFL Commissioner Michael Huyghue let it slip that one of those new teams will be located in the state of Texas. It is a pretty natural thing for a league to want a team in Texas. That state is a huge football market, and every successful start up football league has placed a team there.

As far as cities go, it seems San Antonio is the most logical city for the UFL to expand too. It has no NFL presence, and has a history of being a city receptive to start up football leagues. The USFL had a team there, and it seems that the UFL has a very good chance of being successful there. The population of the city is a very healthy 1.3 million.

While I was very much hoping that the UFL would expand to my hometown of Detroit, Michigan, it makes a lot of sense to pick and choose cities with a high population that have no NFL teams. San Antonio is a great sports town, and the folks there support their NBA team (Spurs). It seems that San Antonio will be a great addition to the UFL, and help bring in some more fans for their TV broadcasts across the country.
