‘Resident Evil 6’ PC Review Roundup

Resident Evil 6 was released for PC on March 22. Here’s what the critics had to say.

After spawning multiple sequels as well as the most successful videogame-based film franchise. You could say that Resident Evil has been the most influential horror game series in history. If it wasn’t for Resident Evil, would there be a Dead Island, Left 4 Dead, or Dead Rising? Most likely not. Resident Evil showed us that zombies can have a story built around them.

The critics are saying that the PC port of Resident Evil 6 is more of a guilty pleasure than anything you’ll brag to your friends about. It looks better, but ZTGD says it’s been on a slow path away from the traditional horror mechanic for three titles now. Resident Evil used to be about trying to escape a mansion infested with zombies, while at the same time doing what you could to avoid becoming one (being bitten and infected), and solving puzzles along the way. Now it’s become an action title with more running and explosions than anything else.

The PC port of Resident Evil 6 comes with all of the patches that have hit the console versions over the last six months. It gives you the ability to go back to previous parts of the game and try to beat your score and collect more emblems. You are now given the ability to pull the camera back to get a better view of what’s going on.

The DLC from the console versions has not been included, unfortunately. You still have to pay for it, but Resident Evil 6 has been discounted to compensate for that.

If you’ve played any other third person shooter, you’ll know exactly what to expect here. Combat controls work better, and you will feel more like you’re part of the action. And where the keyboard and mouse truly excel over the console controllers is the shooting. Aiming with a mouse is so much easier than it is with a control pad or stick.

Boss fights are less about shooting the monster than they are about waiting for the Quick Time Event to come up and just hitting the right key at the right time. This is a major gripe about a lot of action titles these days. We want to play, not watch.

The story in Resident Evil 6 has all of the different characters starting from different locations across the globe before ending up in China for the big finish. Leon comes from the US, Chris from China, Jake from Eastern Europe, and Ada is pretty much everywhere. You definitely get the feeling that the virus has spread worldwide.

What do you think of the PC port of Resident Evil 6?
