‘Metro: Last Light’: What We Know So Far

Metro: Last Light is almost due for release, and here is a rundown on what we know about it.

Due on Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and PC on May 14, 2013, Metro: Last Light is the follow-up to the sleeper cult hit Metro 2033. Thus far, the most recent release has not suffered much in the way of leaks.

The story behind Metro 2033 follows a fictional 2013, where nuclear fallout has run rampant, and Russia has fled to underground metro stations to avoid the radiation. Those left on the surface have been mutated into creatures called the Dark Ones. The humans living underground are living on increased tension due to diminishing food and water. The focus of control is a doomsday device being kept in a vault. A civil war has erupted over it, and it is certain that access to it would mean the end of the human race.

Metro: Last Light continues the story with Artyom, a man born underground who has never seen the sun. He grew up fighting for survival and has lived to see age 21. It is now the year 2034.

Gameplay-wise, gas masks are returning in Metro: Last Light, a standard element for living on the surface. The crank torches are also back, along with customizable weapons. One thing you will know from the get-go is that this game is a first person shooter which will rely heavily on stealth. The stealth mechanics this time around have been reworked to feel more natural.

An upgrade that the developers of Metro: Last Light have included this time around is more powerful weapons. Gamers complained that the last round of weapons didn’t have any power behind them and were mostly uninspiring.

Hopefully fans of Mel Gibson’s Mad Max films or fiction following a more far-gone Cold War scenario will take to this title more than they did Metro 2033.

How excited are you about the upcoming release of Metro: Last Light?
