‘Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D’ To Offer New Content

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D will offer new content.

Some mystery has shrouded the port of Donkey Kong Country Returns to 3DS. It was known that it would use stereoscopic 3D, giving the two-dimensional gameplay a look of depth that Donkey Kong Country has always been known for. It has been revealed via Nintendo’s UK site that new content will also be included with Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. All of you 100 percent players will have more to do this time, so get your banana grabbing fingers ready.

Here is a general rundown of what you will look forward to …

Much like in the original Donkey Kong Country, you will collect letters that spell out “KONG” as you go, unlocking new levels and content. Prepare to spend a bit more time exploring familiar turf as well as new stages as you try for a new reward unlocked with 100 percent completion.

A new mode gives Donkey Kong and his partner in crime Diddy more life, therefore reducing the challenge a bit. This is a nice touch, seeing as casual gamers won’t need to put so much effort into figuring everything out. Kranky Kong’s shop will offer new items that aid you in several ways, such as the ability to survive falls, give the Mine Cart and Rocket Barrel a chance to survive an extra hit, and use the DK Barrel whenever you want.

Donkey Kong Country‘s graphic style has always been conducive to a level of depth that feels more natural than the “flat” feel of other platformers, so items hidden in boxes and such actually look like they’re coming out of the boxes instead of just extending from them. The extra frames of animation for the main characters give them a sense of realism as they actually turn around instead of just “snapping” left or right. The 3DS should be a natural visual platform for the series.
