Donald Trump Abandons Bill Maher $5 Million Lawsuit

Donald Trump has decided to drop his $5 million lawsuit against Bill Maher.

As The Inquisitrpreviously reported, the whole controversy began after Maher went on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno on January 7 and quipped that he would donate $5 million to charity if the NYC real-estate mogul and reality TV star could prove that he wasn’t the result of his mother having sex with an orangutan. The offer was, of course, in response to Trump’s offer to donate $5 million to charity if President Obama provided a copy of his college transcript.

TheCelebrity Apprentice host subsequently released his birth certificate and sued Maher for breach of contract when the Real Time moderator failed to make the donation. Maher claimed the offer was merely a parody rather than in the form of a binding agreement.

On March 29, Trump reportedly withdrew the lawsuit that was originally filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on February 5. The motion to dismiss the case filed by Trump’s lawyers reportedly requested the lawsuit be dropped “with prejudice,” a legal term in court procedure that means the case can not be refiled in the future. Michael Cohen, Trump’s Trump’s Executive Vice President and Special Counsel, claims that “The lawsuit was temporarily withdrawn to be amended and refiled at a later date,” so there appears to be some inconsistency as to whether it is really cased closed.

Last night’s installment of The Celebrity Apprentice evidently hit a season low, with a 13 percent drop from the previous week. It was up against some stiff competition for viewers, however, including the finale of season 3 of The Walking Dead and the first episode of the new season of Game of Thrones.

Regardless of the merits or demerits of the Trump-Maher breach of contract lawsuit, are you disappointed that Donald Trump and Bill Maher won’t, as it stands now, be facing off against each other in court?
