Bikram Sex Scandal Shocks Yoga Community

Bikram Yoga

Bikram Choudhury is currently embroiled in a sex scandal that has sent shock waves through the yoga community.

Choudhury, who is the founder of Bikram yoga, has been accused of sexual harassment and discrimination by one of his former students. The 67-year-old instructor is said to have made unwanted advances towards a woman over a four-year period starting in 2005.

Sarah Baughn claims Bikram told her that they once knew each other in a former life. The woman said the instructor then gave her a Rolex watch. It was shortly after this exchange that the Yoga icon began making further advances.

“I need someone to spend time with me. To give me massages. To talk to me. To love me. To have sex with me. I need someone to take care of me so I don’t die,” Bikram allegedly told Baughn. She added that he would sometimes whisper inappropriate comments in her ear.

When she let Bikram know that she wasn’t interested in him sexually, Baughn said his demeanor changed. She alleges that he humiliated her in front of others students. Baughn believes that the Yoga instructor wouldn’t hire her because she shot him down.

The former student stated in court documents in that Bikram “pinned her against the door, and sexually assaulted her by kissing her neck, chest, and face, and grinding his penis against her leg.”

Although Bikram’s involvement in the sex scandal has certainly received a lot of attention, this isn’t the first time the instructor’s behavior has gotten him in trouble.

Pandhora Williams filed a lawsuit against the millionaire after he made some unsavory comments about women during a retreat back in 2010.

“Women are b****es and whores. They’re here for one thing, and that’s to make babies,” the instructor reportedly told those in attendance.

Bikram is a well-known figure in the yoga world. Some of his former students include Jennifer Aniston and Madonna.

People who give themselves to Satan are susceptible to all sorts of perversion.

I wouldn't trust these a instructors. Most of them are perverts.

Key excerpt from the entire story: "said to have made unwanted advances towards a woman over a four-year period". Are you kidding me? If it was so unwanted then she wouldn't have put up with it for so long. Just saying!

The famed Christian bigotry at work. Like termites they work. First infiltrate and after a few years come up with sexual scandals! These Abrahamic cults – islam and christianity – are pure businesses built on lies and have eliminated indigenous religions and cultures across the globe. They try their best, yet can't get at Hinduism! Keep trying you devil worshippers!

You're going to bring religion into this?! Regardless of religious orientation… this shouldn't happen! What about popes who have "devoted their lives to Christ" who molest children?

A million dollars and still can`t get a girl? No wonder he is mad at women. He should be apreciative that at least they didn`t want him for his money.

No woman deserves unwanted sexual advances, BUT, that being said, she could have 1-found a new Yoga Insructor 2-stopped going to this man entirely or 3-reported the incident to police…..The four year period is the part that's a little difficult for me to comprehend.

Yoga instructors instruct their students to say the name of a Hindu Deity or god who comes down and possess the mind , soul and the body of some people. Some of their group have the demons having sex with them all day long and during the night. They can't even work. To get out of it , they need to call on the Name of Jesus. He will come down. He knocks at the door of your heart , he who opens the door(asks Him to come in) , He will sup with you and you with him(fellowship) partner Then ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit. The gifts and the callings of God are without repentance.

I know this guy has been touchy feely for a long time now. I know female clients who have been sexually harassed by this guy as well. I was involved in a magazine article about this guy and spent a few days attending his classes.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say you've never actually attended a Yoga class…

Literally, the only thing that has made me laugh today LOL…..
I was thinking it, but you got me! LOL

Don't you just stretch and shit. Maybe some tight pants, but mostly stretching and smoking…..

Vanessa and Jac I agree with what both of you say, I do wonder if she kept the Rolex watch though. Some men are relentless in their pursuit of women, (stalkers, etc). This guy sounds like that kind of creep. Why would someone want to deal with him for four years, let alone accept any gift (regardless of value) from him?

Well, this is a complicated question. I personally don' practice Bikram. I have before and it is not my thing. Some people love it. For me heating the body to 105 degrees and then giving some yoga cues that could possibly hurt me isn't something I want to do. And, I didn't even know about the sex scandal. I'm convinced that many yoga teachers cross the boundaries with their students but Bikram, John Friend, and others are such big deals that we find out about them. All teachers should be aware of and stick to ethical guidelines and the principle of non harming. Crossing boundaries with students and having dual relationships is never a good idea. My 2 cents.

There is definitely a Bikram community that is very unique, and Sarah was in the inner circle. She had devoted her career to yoga and was going for a world championship. Bikram is known for his sexually charged comments, and she probably hoped he would back off – and certainly she didn't think he would sabatage her career. The things she says he said are right in line with his typical dialog. My guess is she's telling the complete truth.

The fact that many are shocked is shocking. Missing the "obvious," it is no wonder that we have all this non-sense (to say the least) in the name of "yoga." Fact: Real Yoga is Hinduism; taught by Hindus and not for a fee. Spurious yoga strikes out on all three counts.
