‘Phantom Pain’ Revealed As ‘Metal Gear Solid 5’

Phantom Pain questions have finally been answered. At the GDC today, Hideo Kojima made it public that the game is actually the next chapter in the Metal Gear Solid saga.

Kojima went to a great deal of trouble in order to hide the fact that this was in fact not just another chapter in the series. The game developer even went to the lengths of actually trotting out a fake president of Moby Dick Studios.

The apparently fake Joakim Mogren showed up for an interview with his head bandaged just like the main character in the trailers for the game and that is when the rumor mill really got rolling.

Phantom Pain was actually teased at last year’s VGAs and even then there were people who thought this might be yet another Metal Gear Solid. It turns out those people were right on.

It turns out that the bandaged character in the trailers is actually Snake after he has awoken from a nine-year coma.

The game will actually start off with an on-rails demo that will have the character learning how to use his body again, while you learn the controls of the game.

Snake is apparently voiced by Kiefer Sutherland, a pretty big coup for the game developers and certainly one of the reasons that Kojima had kept such a lid on this game.

The developer wanted to make sure there was plenty of interest in this game and Kojima seems to have gotten his wish.

At the final reveal, a trailer was shown that actually blended some Metal Gear Solid videos, along with the trailers that had been released for the mystery game.

At the end of the trailer, logos for the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360. Kojima said that the game would be available on both consoles, despite the fact that it is currently only running on PC.
