With Seth MacFarlane’s hosting job at the Academy Awards now out of our minds, next year’s date has already been set for March 2, 2014. Where does Justin Timberlake fit in with all of this? The multi-talented Timberlake was rumored to be considered for the coveted role of host for next years ceremony.
While no official source has confirmed this, the fact that the date has now been set may mean that the Academy is looking at their pool of possible hosts. What does this mean? It’s possible Timberlake may still be up for grabs as host, and that those rumors about the Suit & Tie man being in the running may not be far off.
Timberlake is making a huge comeback into show business. While the music man took an extended hiatus from music to act, Timberlake returned better than ever when he made his debut performance in six years at the Grammys. Earlier in the month Timberlake pulled double duty to one of the highest rated SNL episodes in over a year. A week later Timberlake exceeded expectations by outselling his album The 20/20 Experience, which may reach $1 million by the end of this week.
In addition Timberlake had his own week alongside Jimmy Fallon on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. During his Timberweek on the late night show, the singer sang hits from his new album, performed in skits, and was all around charming. These seem to be the ingredients that make up the perfect Oscar host. While it seems to be an impossible job to conquer, maybe the Academy Awards needs a music man to come in and set things right.
It would certainly be a change for the Academy, who in recent years has seen the likes of Billy Crystal, Seth MacFarlane, James Franco, and Anne Hathaway as hosts. Perhaps the Oscars needs someone that has one foot in films and the other as an entertainer. After all, everything Justin Timberlake touches these days turns to gold.
Do you think Justin Timberlake would be a good host for the Academy Awards?
