Rihanna Cancels Boston Concert Due To Laryngitis

Rihanna has been forced to cancel her Sunday night concert at Boston’s TD Garden after contracting laryngitis.

Live Nation postponed the Rihanna concert this morning, saying, “Unfortunately, following her sold out concert on Friday, Rihanna has contracted laryngitis and per doctor’s instruction is unable to perform this evening.”

The 24-year-old confirmed the bad news on Twitter, writing, “BOSTON this is the hardest thing for me to deal with! I feel like we’ve been waiting on this day forever, and I’m hurt that I let you down.”

The “Diamonds” singer added, “I hate disappointing people that never ever let me down!! I’m so embarrassed about this! Thank you for your prayers and well wishes!”

The Boston concert would have been the second on Rihanna’s “Diamonds World Tour,” which she kicked off Friday in Buffalo, New York. Even though the show started later than its scheduled time, the “open dress rehearsal went off without a hitch,” according to Buffalo News pop critic Jeff Miers.

“The rabid, capacity crowd certainly helped, as did the fact that Rihanna and her entourage had been in Buffalo for most of the week prior to Friday’s show,” Miers added, “rehearsing the ins and outs of the massive production repeatedly – reportedly, right up until the moment the gates were opened and the fans swarmed the arena on Friday.”

Rihanna is scheduled to play a concert in Baltimore Tuesday, which Live Nation has confirmed is still set to go ahead as planned. The Boston concert will be rescheduled at a later date.

The “Diamonds World Tour” will continue through the spring, with Rihanna performing in over 25 cities and wrapping up the tour at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on May 4.
