Now we can all play Foursquare!

I admit it again, I’m totally playing Foursquare.

Having been banished to Long Island from my former home of Brooklyn, however, I’m stuck out here with the rest of the old, too poor for the city, and terminally unhip people who don’t dig pointless location aware games. (I asked around at a local hotspot Saturday night if anyone would check in with me- I really want the player, please badge- and was met with quizzical stares.) Even worse, I was a little bit further East than usual Sunday getting my Indian reservation cigarettes and Foursquare asked me if I was in New Haven. Connecticut! Indeed, even my efforts to recruit internet friends to up my anemic friend count has been unsuccessful, largely because they bristled when the app asked them to “pretend” they were in a cooler city upon login.

However, those of us in suburbia can finally play more efficiently with the cool kids now, according to a tweet on the official Foursquare Twitter feed:

Psst, but you can now check-in from *anywhere*. This is about 75% done – we still got more “everywhere” tweaks coming. http://bit.ly/5wQDlU

Of course, the lack of Foursquare everywhere previously didn’t prevent me from becoming the Mayor of rural Intercourse, PA checking in in Philly, but maybe the game will get more players now and those of us who hit a wall can get some more badges.
