Michelle Obama Fires Back At Oscar Critics

Michelle Obama fired back at critics over her appearance at the Oscars.

Michelle Obama calls it “absolutely not surprising” that her satellite-fed appearance at the Oscars created a huge conspiracy. Some conservative critics said it was a selfish attempt to upstage the event. According to Yahoo News, the first lady says it’s just a sign of a culture shift where everything she does or says ends up making news:

“Shoot, my bangs set off a national conversation. My shoes can set off a national conversation. That’s just sort of where we are. We’ve got a lot of talking going on. It’s like everybody’s kitchen-table conversation is now accessible to everybody else so there’s a national conversation about anything.”

When Michelle Obama appeared on the Oscars via satellite to audiences across the country to unseal an envelope and announce the winner for Best Picture (Argo), it wasn’t the first time a presidential personality showed up in an awards show. In 2002, Laura Bush appeared via videotape.

First lady Michelle Obama says she was simply supporting the arts when she made her cameo at the Oscars, but the American critics always seem to read more into it than there really is.

When asked for her reaction to the criticism, Michelle Obama said it really wasn’t a big deal and she wasn’t really thinking about it. According to the Huffington Post, when asked if she was surprised that her bangs made the news, Michelle Obama replied:

“I was, I have to say. I’m like, `it’s a haircut.'”

Michelle Obama also disclosed a time when she was ten years old at camp with her brother, and her salty language cost her the title of “best camper.” She said:

“I was going through my cursing stage. I didn’t realize until my camp counselor at the end came up and said, `You know, you would have been best camper in your age group but you curse so much.’ And I was thinking, `Really. Was it that noticeable? And I thought I was being cool. Little did I know I lost `best camper.’ I didn’t curse again.”

Obviously, Michelle Obama doesn’t over-think anything.
