The Angry Birds might have started as a simple mobile game, but it has quickly ballooned into a billion dollar franchise. In celebration of its popularity, a new Angry Birds cartoon will debut in March 2013.
The web-only series will feature Rovio’s popular birds as they battled against their nemesis’ the evil pigs.
Officially titled Angry Birds Toons, the series will take the games short animated sequences and turn them into a longer series.
In a Rovio blog post, the company says the series will “throw the doors of Piggie Island wide open.”
The goal is to make gamers more invested in the Angry Birds franchise by offering character development for the mysterious birds and pigs.
Starting on March 16, an Angry Birds Toons web portal will launch where the cartoons can be watched for free.
The cartoon could be a nice stepping stone for Rovio’s release of a feature length animated film which is set to debut in 2016.
