Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Gets A New Trailer [Video]

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has just dropped a new trailer showing the battle environments of the upcoming MMORPG.

The original Final Fantasy XIV was released back in September of 2010, and got a lot of negative criticism. Due to the negative reception of the online game, Square Enix President Yoichi Wada said that a new team would take over development of a new title.

The team, led by Yoshida, was responsible for generating content for the original version of the game, in addition to developing a new game that would attempt to curb the previous title’s criticism. It was initially called “version 2.0,” but since spun off into it’s own title, the aptly-named Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

The game will use a new engine, and improved server, all new gameplay and interface, as well as a brant new story.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will take place in Eorzea, five years after the events of the original game. The conclusion of Final Fantasy XIV saw the escape of the dragon Bahamut from its prison on the moon, initiating the Seventh Umbral Era which saw much of Eorzea destroyed.

The player character in the new title escapes the apocalyptic event by time traveling five years into the future. Eorzea is struggling to rebuild, and the player must face the threat of invasion by the Garlean Empire.

The trailer’s release comes ahead of the game’s first round of beta testing on February 25, 2013. You can sign up for the game’s beta program for PC and PS3 on Square Enix’s official site, here.
