Dave Thomas: Man Reunited With Dog Allegedly Threatens To Sue Woman Who Helped Him

Dave Thomas became a viral celebrity after a woman snapped a picture of him crying over the dog he couldn’t afford to get out of the pound. Now, Thomas is allegedly out to sue that same woman who helped him raise the money to get the dog back.

The story came out last week, when Maria Sanchez took a clandestine photo of Thomas sobbing over his dog, Buzz Lightyear. Thomas had been jailed briefly for failing to appear for traffic violations, and as a result his dog was impounded.

It was going to cost Thomas more than $400 to get the 2-year-old pitbull mix out of the San Bernadino City Animal Shelter, but Thomas didn’t have the money, The Huffington Post reported.

“He was pouring water into his dog’s water bowl, his dog sat there and licked up the water for about a minute, he sat down next to him and started weeping,” Sanchez told KABC.

As soon as her picture went up on Facebook, strangers started coming forward to help reunite Dave Thomas and the dog he loved — raising even more than the impound fees. When Sanchez couldn’t locate Thomas, she took it a step further, making phone calls and driving around town posting flyers to find him.

Then KABC stepped in to help, and Sanchez was able to tell Thomas that she had the money for him to keep the dog. Thomas reportedly thanked her.

But that may have changed. A video posted to YouTube by user Maria Sanchez played a voicemail, reportedly from Dave Thomas, threatening to sue her for keeping the money raised to save Buzz Lightyear.

Though the voicemail is not verified, the user posted an account of what happened after she connected with Thomas.

“After I hung up with KTLA channel 5, I tried to call Dave,” Maria Sanchez wrote. H”is wife would not let me speak to him. She screamed at me that I was stealing their dog’s money. She said they have called the news stations and that if I did not give them their money, they were going to call the police.”

The user went on to post that Dave Thomas will not receive the extra funds raised after being reunited with his dog, not “after the stunt he pulled.”

This article doesn't tell the whole story, it makes it sound like Maria is trying to keep the money, which she is NOT. She offered to use the remaining money to help him pay off fines and bills, he got upset that he wouldn't get the cash himself and that's when things blew up. It was never intended for him to get the cash, as with many fundraisers there is always someone that pays the bills and does the shopping so that the people who donated their hard earned money can be sure it does not get wasted.

after the nasty voicemail and the way his wife acted Maria decided she would refund the donated money so that she could be done with it, if your going to write an article, do not leave out key facts like this, your making the good guy seem like the bad guy.

Its too bad this page does not tell the entire story!
This just goes to show some media outlets are only out for ratings!

Dave will now have to live with the shame he brought on himself, now obvious to all the quarter million residents here in San Bernardino, & the many in SoCal & world-wide for that matter, especially everyone that was out locally looking for him to render some help. We all now know what this low-life Dave jerk looks like, from looking for you. Someone may just be looking to run into you for other reasons, now or later! Live with that the rest of you life low-life, if you can! You are as bankrupt mentally, as our City is financially. Cheers to the new way of "Looking at/for You"!

Dear Mr Thomas and wife – you should both be Deeply ashamed for what you have done. greedy, ignorant, idiots. It was never YOUR money. We donated for the sake of the pup – to get him home. The money was never intended to go to you. You should have been thanking this woman profusely but instead your inner greed came out. people like you both give the human race a bad name. If you want to rectify this wrong I highly suggest a public appology and doing some volunteer work at the local shelter – get involved and give back to the community that opened their hearts and wallets to you.

MARIA don't let this article discourage you. It's obvious to me (I posted your link online) that you've had nothing but good intentions. The world is a better place with people like you in it.

She should have donated the remainder to the shelter or any animal charity.
