Filmed in 1999, when Cooper would have been 24, the Silver Linings Playbook star asks, “My question is regarding Hurlyburly, what was it like to revisit a character, Eddie, after a 10 year hiatus?” The strange thing is though, Cooper co-starred in the movie with Penn.
The actor went on to add, “Did you have new discoveries? Did you find that it was a different approach, because you had already done this character before?”
Penn’s responded, “Yes it was the first time I had done a film of something that I had done a play of. I think Marlon Brando one said, ‘[a play] is something just shy of a film’s rehearsal’ and you really get to feel that when you’re doing a play.”
Penn added, “Three weeks into the rehearsal of a play you think what have I been doing in these movies? How much more would I have found out if I had to process.”
Cooper, who is sporting a blonder bouffant in the clip, is thoroughly engrossed in Penn’s diatribe throughout. Cooper is nominated for an Oscar for his performance in Silver Linings Playbook, but is predicted to miss out to Lincoln’s Daniel Day-Lewis.
The thespian graduated from Pace university in 2000, whilst Inside The Actors Studio has been broadcast over 250 times. Cooper made an emotional return to the show in 2011 where he became the first ever graduate of the university to be interviewed by James Lipton.
