John Boehner Claims Obama Administration Wants To ‘Annihilate’ The GOP

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) believes that the Obama administration wants to “annihilate” the GOP. The comment was made during a private luncheon hosted by The Ripon Society.

The Ripon Society is a centrist Republican think tank. During the luncheon, Boehner stated:

“We’re expecting here, over the next 22 months, to be the focus of this administration as they attempt to annihilate the Republican Party. And let me just tell you, I do believe that is their goal — to just shove us into the dustbin of history.”

CBS News reports that the House Speaker also expressed his frustration that the president’s agenda is far from what Republicans want.

He recalled when Obama told him health care was a bigger problem than government spending, adding, “it gives you some idea of the challenge that we’re facing.”

The House Speaker also commented on how trying to work with the president has caused some in his party to wonder about trusting him. Boehner stated:

“The last two years … they’ve been pretty rough. Going back to the spring of 2011, the summer of 2011, me sitting down with the president — you have no idea the suspicions and the undercurrents that it caused, frankly, a lot of my members.”

The Washington Post notes that John Boehner also believes that Republicans will have to defend themselves, because they are in a “very hostile environment.” They will need to think strategically about how and when they will confront President Obama. He added, “We’ve got a lot of big decisions to make.”

Do you think John Boehner is right? Does Obama’s administration want to “annihilate” the GOP?
