‘Godzilla’ Remake: Aaron Johnson Up For Lead Role

Now that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is out of the running for the Godzilla remake, Kick-Ass star Aaron Johnson is reportedly up for the lead role.

The young actor is reportedly at the top of the list for the main character in the upcoming reboot. According to Cinema Blend, Legendary Pictures is very interested in getting the talented young star to sign on for the project.

Although producers would like to get Johnson on-board with the Godzilla remake, apparently the actor isn’t quite ready to get the ball rolling. Rumors has it he’s waiting to see the final draft of the script before he decides whether or not the movie is worth his time.

Deadline reports that the studio is still hoping to begin production on the flick this March. Once the script is in the can and a cast in place, production should begin. Producers are banking on the remake being released into theaters on May 16, 2014.

The Inquisitr previously reported that The Walking Dead and The Shawshank Redemption scribe Frank Darabont is currently in the process of reworking the story. The original script was penned by The Seventh Son writer Max Borenstein.

Given Darabont’s success adapting a handful of Stephen King stories, chances are his version of Godzilla will be a bit deeper and perhaps more emotional than director Roland Emmerich’s 1998 much-maligned adaptation.

It’s also been confirmed that the new Godzilla flick will feature two brand new monsters. It’s unclear if these creatures will work alongside everyone’s favorite giant reptile or if he will have to save the world from these new threats.

Warner Bros. also stated that the latest Hollywood version of Godzilla will be much different than its Japanese counterparts. Director Gareth Edwards has stated on more than one occasion that he is interested taking a more realistic approach to the material.

Are you looking forward to the Godzilla remake? Do you think Aaron Johnson is the right choice for the lead role?
