Modern Warfare 2 predictably smashes pre-order records

Modern Warfare 2 drops in stores next week, and is set to be the BIGGEST GAME EVAR. Okay, you probably hear that a lot, but for once, that might not be empty hyperbole.

GameStop bigwig Tony Bartel has revealed that no other game has received as many pre-orders in the company’s 6,200 U.S. stores, noting that, ”As of today, the number of pre-order reservations we’ve taken [for Modern Warfare 2] is the highest for any title we’ve ever sold.”

So in a break from my usual line of questioning, anybody not buying this?

Also, if you’re wondering about the image above, Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling has tweeted (via VG247) that Modern Warfare 2-themed Avatar gear will be available on Xbox Live from tomorrow – the Ghost outfit above is just one example of what will no doubt be a real money-spinner.

You’re not being cruelly neglected though, PS3 owners: Infinity Ward is slaving away on some PS3 Dynamic Themes also.
