Rebel Wilson To Host MTV Movie Awards

In a move that couldn’t make more sense, MTV has announced that Rebel Wilson will be taking up hosting duties for the MTV Movie Awards 2013. The comedian has had a huge year in America. She’s gone from having a funny cameo in Bridesmaids, to a comedic star in films like Bachelorette, Pitch Perfect, and What To Expect When You’re Expecting.

That said, it’s only fitting that MTV would choose the comedian to host the award show, which in the past have been hosted by strong comedic personalities. The roster of hosts in years past have been a who’s who of funny people, including Russell Brand, Jason Sudeikis, Andy Samberg, Mike Myers, and Sarah Silverman. In 2004, even Lindsay Lohan had her turn at the hosting job.

The network announced the news of Rebel taking the reigns on the ceremony during the Jersey Shore finale. The event is said to take place on April 14. While that seems really far away, MTV has released a promotional commercial to hold over Wilson’s fans. The promo shows Wilson being gagged and whipped in a dungeon of sorts. It’s a gruesome, and dark promo that ends on a winking moment of Wilson eating a candy bar. With a promising promo like that we’re guessing this is going to be one heck of a night come awards time.

Wilson has been keeping busy. In addition to the hosting gig, back in October the Hollywood Reporter reported that she signed a project with Universal that would see her write, star, and produce in. Although no details were readily available, it seems like Rebel really can’t do any wrong.

Who do you think will get the golden popcorn?
