Fans of old school text adventure games will no doubt rejoice over the fact that The Lost Treasures of Infocom is now available for iOS.
According to Gamasutra, the collection features 27 of the iconic companies’ interactive fiction titles, including the Zork series, Planetfall, and the survival horror game The Lurking Horror.
Although you can download these titles for use with a number of Z-machine interpreters, the game’s original packaging has been faithfully recreated for this edition. This is particularly enticing for those of us who never had the chance to pick up these games during the genre’s heyday.
To make the package even more attractive to potential buyers, The Lost Treasures of Infocom collection has been custom-built for iOS devices. New features include the ability to create command shortcuts, a handy tool when you’re adventuring through these rich interactive worlds.
Kotaku reports the games will be available in packs of five. Each bundle will reportedly set you back around $2.99. However, should you decide to go full-tilt and purchase all of the titles for $9.99, you’ll receive Zork: The Undiscovered Underground as an added bonus.
While those of us who are obsessively holding onto our original copies of Zork: Grand Inquisitor can still play the game, it’s a nice addition for those who missed out on the retro adventure the first time around.
Interactive fiction nerds have had quite a week. In addition to getting The Lost Treasures of Infocom on iOS, it was recently announced that Zork co-creators Marc Blank and Dave Lebling would receive the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences’ Pioneer Award at the DICE Summit next February.
The complete list of available games has been included below. Sadly, it looks like we’ll have to wait on Beyond Zork and Zork Zero.
