Kate Middleton And Prince William In Wimbledon Royal Box, As Federer Broke Cilic In Emotional Final

The new Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, the Duchess of Cambridge, was joined by her husband, Prince William on Sunday as they watched the emotional Wimbledon men’s final match.

The Swiss sensation and Middleton family friend, Roger Federer, broke Croatian player, Marin Cilic, at Wimbledon. Federer won his record eighth Wimbledon championship, beating out Pete Sampras’ seemingly unbreakable record of seven wins, at the storied tennis venue. Federer is the third man in history to win multiple Grand Slam tournaments, and not drop a set.

Kate Middleton and the Duke of Cambridge sat in the royal box, not far from William’s Eton pal, actor Eddie Redmayne, as well as, actor and tennis enthusiasts Bradley Cooper, actor Hugh Grant, and Prince Albert of Monaco.

According to the Daily Mail, the Middleton family members who attended, Pippa, James and Carole, had to cheer Federer from the “cheap seats.”

Federer, who attended Pippa’s recent wedding to James Matthews, will no doubt get a personal call congratulating him from the tennis-loving Middletons. Catherine has recently revealed her mother’s rather endearing crush on the Swiss-born player. Pippa first met the tennis sensation four years ago, when she interviewed him for Vanity Fair, and they have been friends since.

Kate Middleton looked fresh in white. The clean-looking, Catherine Walker cap-sleeved, skater-style dress had a whimsical flower print, from waist to hem, that featured flowers such as poppies and iris. It just so happens that Kate’s favorite designer, Catherine Walker, also happened to be one of Princess Diana’s favorite designers as well, dressing the late princess for last 16 years of her life.

She wore a colorful bow, in the official Wimbledon colors of purple and green, at the the top left of her dress. Those became the official colors of the storied tennis championship since 1909, and it is reflected in the color scheme of the tournament.

Pippa also wore tennis white, a MaxMara dress with sprigged flowers. The sleeveless, prairie-style tiered, ankle-length dress, had delicate white lace embellishments and looked summery. She wore tan platform sandals, and a spring green-colored handbag.

This is going to be a busy week for the Cambridges. The popular royals are off on a charm offensive. Tomorrow, they leave for a five-day trip to Poland and German, along with their adorable children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

According to USA Today, the couple will be participating in the usual sort of royal receptions and dinners, in addition to “meeting young entrepreneurs, mental health advocates.” They plan to visit a Nazi concentration camp, and the Berlin Holocaust Museum. The couple will also compete in a rowing competition. Last time they competed, in Canada, William won. Perhaps Kate has been working on her muscles to ensure she wins this race?
