The Walking Dead fans still can’t get over the tragic death of Steven Yeun’s character in the series; so much so that they keep on looking for answers as to why Glenn Rhee had to exit the show.
Glenn Rhee, Maggie’s husband, who was capable of managing challenging situations, also acted as the group’s moral compass. When his life ended at the merciless hands of Negan, his huge fan base was left devastated.
Despite his untimely departure from The Walking Dead, Steven accepted his character’s unfortunate demise. In his recent interview with Vulture, he discussed the fate of Glenn and the backlash that was received by the network for his brutal murder.
When asked about his thoughts on his character’s tragic demise, Yeun hinted confusion. The 33-year-old Korean-American actor admitted that he felt like a lot of people appeared to have run out of ideas on what to do with his character in The Walking Dead.
“I truly feel like people didn’t know what to do with Glenn.”
He added that Glenn was greatly favored, created zero problems, and made people happy, but his relationship with his audience was not realized not until his death.
Many were quick to point out Steven’s confusing thoughts, especially since he did not specifically point out those “people” that he was referring to, but reports suggest that it might include The Walking Dead‘s showrunners and writers.
It’s no secret that fans of Yeun were utterly disappointed with Glenn’s death on the show, and AMC had to bear the hate and objections. Interestingly, it has been revealed that Steven himself felt the same way, admitting that he was emotionally hurt and frustrated seeing his character die.
His reflections on Maggie’s husband seemed to imply that AMC should have done more and treated him fairly. With Yeun’s revelation, many are wondering if he was hinting at a possible return to The Walking Dead.
This theory will get a clear answer when The Walking Dead returns for Season 8 in October. While the huge fan base of the show awaits the comeback of the phenomenal zombie series, they can expect the first official trailer for the new installment of the franchise later this month at San Diego Comic-Con.
Meanwhile, Steven recently starred in a new Netflix original film Okja. In the action-adventure film, Yeun plays the role of K, one of the radical environmentalists that kidnaps the movie’s titular super-pig, only to be saved from being slaughtered by a mega-corporation called Mirando.
Okja is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
