‘NCIS’ Season 15 Spoilers: How CBS Will Address Jennifer Esposito’s Alex Quinn’s Exit

It’s no surprise that Jennifer Esposito is leaving NCIS after only one season. It has already been confirmed that Esposito and her character, Alex Quinn, will no longer be part of Season 15 as a regular. However, Alex Quinn’s departure from the series was not given closure, and fans are wondering how the new season will address the cliffhanger.

It can be recalled that in the NCIS Season 14 finale, Quinn received two calls from her mother (Mercedes Ruehl). According to speculation by major news outlets, one of the mysterious calls Quinn got will be used to explain her departure. It is presumed that Alex will quit her job and tend to her mom, who has dementia.

It remains to be seen if NCIS Season 15 will have Jennifer Esposito back as a guest star or a recurring character. Fans will just have to wait for the new season to know what will happen to Alex Quinn’s arc.

Esposito filled the void that Michael Weatherly left behind when he made his exit after Season 13. Although she had a short run as a regular in the series, Esposito is grateful for having played Quinn.

“It was a great experience,” the actress told Deadline. “I could not have asked for a better opportunity than to work with the NCIS cast and producers.”

Alex Quinn was a character created by Gary Glasberg before his death in September 2016. The NCIS Special Agent was introduced in the Season 14 premiere. She had worked in the field but left the job to become an instructor at the Law Enforcement Training Center.

In one of the episodes of NCIS Season 14, Alex’s backstory was revealed. She had been struggling with the death of her partner, which she believed she’s responsible for. Gibbs (Mark Harmon) asked her to join the team and get back in the field because of her quick mind and her overall skill as a federal agent. Current team members, Ellie Bishop (Emily Wickersham) and Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) are just some of the agents that Quinn had trained.

NCIS returns to CBS with brand new episodes from Season 15 on Sept. 26. Fans will just have to wait until then to know the answers to the previous season’s cliffhangers, including Gibbs and McGee’s (Sean Murray) fate.
