Is The Bromance Between Justin Trudeau And Emmanuel Macron Blossoming?

In May, fans of the fictional “bromance” between former U.S. President Barack Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau were disappointed when social media began buzzing with fantastical reports of Trudeau “leaving” Obama for French President Emmanuel Macron.

While visiting Italy for the G-7 summit earlier this year, Emmanuel and Justin were photographed standing on a high bridge amongst summer blossoms, taking in the breathtaking view of a Sicilian valley in the distance.

Social media instantly took advantage of the moment to create imaginative narratives about a possible bromance between two of the world’s youngest – and finest – male heads of state.

The Huffington Post has dubbed the alleged new bromance as “MacDeau,” an apparent coupling of the pair’s surnames, Macron and Trudeau.

At the time, fans of the Macron and Trudeau fantasy were elated at the possibility of a continuing storyline they could follow in the world of what often seems, for some, like dreary global politics.

Certain dedicated followers have even gone so far as to create fan fiction about the two political allies, a phenomenon not new to fans of Justin Trudeau who has been the subject of fan fiction for quite some time. The spread of the “MacDeau” bromance stories has reignited the creativity within the circles of hobbyist fan fiction writers.

Well, there’s good news. It seems as if the bromance is continuing its momentum as Macron and Trudeau met once again at the G-20 summit currently taking place in Hamburg, Germany.

As footage emerged showing “MacDeau” exchanging hugs and sipping cocktails, fans pounced on the opportunity to revel in creative speculations about what the two could really have been up to. At first, it was the perceived glee the leaders expressed when meeting again that caught the attention of social media users.

The video above was shared on the German Cabinet’s Facebook page, and within no time, the GIF had been widely circulated as fans enjoyed embellishing on the moment.

Of course, it wasn’t long before images of Emmanuel Macron, and Justin Trudeau also appeared on social media. On Twitter, users interacted with one another by sharing these images with their own unique captions that captured their own version of the events in the photographs.

Fans were also quick to notice the fact that Trudeau and Macron had tweeted at one another after their meeting at the G-20 summit.

The reality of the relationship between Prime Minister Trudeau and President Macron is, of course, much less fanciful. Both leaders are most likely discussing matters of global importance, such as terrorism, immigration, Syria, North Korea, Climate Change, and the world’s financial situation.

Following the tragic bombing at a Manchester Stadium earlier this year, Macron and Trudeau announced that “the Franco-Canadian friendship has a new face.”

Macron also later tweeted that, “We have to meet the challenges of our generation to respond to issues related to terrorism, climate, and economic cooperation.”

Nevertheless, the internet is determined to have fun portraying the seriousness of their relationship as a blossoming bromance.

So for now, it seems “MacDeau” is here to stay. Sorry, Obama.
