Psy Meets Obama As Rapper’s Anti-American Song Hits The Internet

Psy met with President Obama briefly last night during the 31st annual Christmas in Washington concert.

Psy, who became an instant hit with the release of his song Gangnam Style, created some controversy last week when a few lyrics from an anti-American song he performed in 2004 leaked onto the internet. In the song, Psy says that “Yankees who have been torturing Iraqi captives” should be killed “slowly and painfully.”

Psy sings: “Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law, and fathers. Kill them all slowly and painfully.”

Psy, who quickly apologized for the lyrics, got the chance to shake the President’s hand during the concert but Spin Magazine notes that Obama did not mention the South Korean rapper during his closing comments.

The magazine notes that Obama mentioned all of the performers by name but chose to refer to Psy, as well as Demi Lovato, as “all the other talented folks on this stage.”

Obama said:

“Tonight is about Conan and Diana Ross and Santa and all the other talented folks on this stage. But it’s also about the Americans who are spending this holiday in a hospital bed, or a shelter, or protecting our freedom on a battlefield far from home. Let’s keep them in our prayers, and follow Christ’s calling to love one another as He has loved all of us.”

Do you think President Obama purposefully chose not to mention Psy’s name? Did Demi Lovato do something as well to warrant the shout-out snub?

Here’s a video of Psy’s anti-American song.
