Miley Cyrus Admits Why Everyone On ‘The Voice’ Gangs Up On Blake Shelton

The Voice coach Miley Cyrus recently revealed why she and her fellow coaches love to torment Blake Shelton on the show.

Blake is often the butt of the joke on The Voice, from Adam Levine making fun of his Southern accent to other coaches desperately hoping to nab contestants before he can. Miley, who is returning as a coach on The Voice this fall for Season 13, spoke on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this week about Blake’s winning streak being the ultimate reason for their teasing.

“We only all turn on Blake because he always wins,” Miley explained to host Jimmy Fallon. “He’s so nice. So he’s so hard to hate, but you gotta do what you gotta do to win.”

Jennifer Hudson will join Blake, Miley and Adam for Season 13 of The Voice, and Miley is already looking for a partner to team up with against Blake. She admitted that even though Adam has been on the show just as long as Blake, he is ready to go against him, and often texts her, “So when are we really just gonna knock Blake out of this thing?” She ultimately said that all three would have to be against Blake in the new season.

Miley revealed that she was going to have a secret weapon in Season 13 — her father Billy Ray Cyrus will be her special adviser.

“I’m going to come for [Blake] in the biggest way possible,” she said. “When Blake was in high school, he was so obsessed with my dad that the teachers called him ‘Achy Blakey,’ because he would do everything that my dad did. He was ruined the minute he told me that. Now, I’m going to bring in the real deal. I’m really excited about that.”

Miley also discussed being excited to have Jennifer as a new coach.

“I’m excited that she’s never done ‘The Voice’ before, because I was the rookie the first time,” Miley said. “So, Blake and Adam had that against me, and now I have a little bit of experience.”

Jennifer actually does have The Voice experience, but not on the U.S. show. The R&B singer was a coach on The Voice U.K. earlier this year and actually went on to win on her very first season. Jennifer also has singing competition experience, having previously appeared as a contestant on American Idol in 2004. While she finished in seventh place, she went on to become one of the most success Idol contestants in history, winning an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and multiple Grammys.

It’s possible that history could repeat if Jennifer manages to nab a particularly strong artist in Season 13. However, it may be tough for Jennifer and even Miley to overcome the experience of Blake and Adam, who have eight wins between them. Alicia Keys was able to beat them in Season 12, though, winning with R&B artist Chris Blue.
