Brad Pitt And Angelina Jolie Divorce Rumors: Couple Fell In Love With Their ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ Characters?

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s divorce may have been a long time coming.

While the 53-year-old actor once said that it was exciting for his kids to watch him and Angelina Jolie in 2005’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith because “not a lot of people get to see a movie where their parents fell in love,” a new report claims that wasn’t exactly what happened.

Speaking to NW Magazine on June 12, celebrity biographer Ian Halperin, whose upcoming documentary Broken: The Incredible Story of Brangelina is set to expose the former couple’s scandalous secrets, revealed that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie allegedly fell in love with the people they were playing, not one another.

“I have experts [in the documentary] who’ve examined the relationship and they conclude unwaveringly that they fell in love with each other’s characters, not with Brad and Angelina,” Halperin explained. “This is extremely dangerous because one day you wake up and you essentially say, ‘Who am I with?’ You have no idea once you’re out of character… you become a complete stranger to the person who you’ve fallen in love with, and you know nothing about them. It’s very common in Hollywood.”

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt went public with their relationship shortly after the movie’s release in 2005, and in the years that followed, they adopted three children from other countries, including 15-year-old Maddox from Cambodia, 13-year-old Pax from Vietnam, and 12-year-old Zahara from Ethiopia. They also welcomed three children biologically, including 11-year-old Shiloh and 8-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.

Years later, with their children in attendance, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie tied the knot in a small ceremony at their home in France.

According to Halperin, sources have recently claimed that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie may reconcile their relationship, but according to the biographer, the couple’s potential reunion won’t be for love. As he explained, Angelina Jolie has reportedly been crushing numbers and discovered that she is worth more with Pitt than she is as a single parent.

In addition, Halperin explained, Angelina Jolie has reportedly struggled to adjust to her new life as a single parent without Brad Pitt and realized that she is no longer living the life she once had.

“She’s not in love with [Brad Pitt]… If they would ever get back together, it would be a relationship of convenience,” Halperin added.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt parted ways in September of 2016 and have been hammering out the details of their divorce and custody battle in the months since. As for their kids, the six children have been spending the majority of their time with Jolie, who recently relocated from Malibu, California, to Los Feliz.

Brad Pitt has remained at their former marital home in Los Feliz post-split, and earlier this month, his kids returned to the home for a monitored visit.
