U.S. Representative Maxine Waters is convinced that President Donald Trump is lying about his meetings with former FBI Director James Comey.
In an interview on MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes on Friday, the Democratic congresswoman slammed Trump for claiming that Comey’s congressional testimony this week was full of “false statements and lies.” Waters, an outspoken opponent of the president, was one of the first people in Washington, D.C. to call for Trump’s impeachment and for an investigation into what she likes to call his “Kremlin Klan.”
“The president is lying.”
“The president absolutely asked him to discontinue his investigation into [former national security adviser Michael] Flynn in the way that he did,” she said to Hayes.
Rep. Maxine Waters also told the MSNBC host that she doesn’t believe that Trump actually has recordings of his meetings with James Comey, contrary to a threat he made on Twitter last month. According to Waters, this is why Trump said that he is willing to testify and tell his version of what occurred during his and Comey’s meetings.
The California congresswoman also said that Donald Trump knew exactly what he was doing during “that one meeting,” when he asked everyone but Comey to leave the room.

“He did that for a reason,” Maxine Waters said.
“He didn’t want other people to know exactly what he was saying and the fact that he was interfering in the investigation.”
“If there are tapes,” she said, “you can believe they won’t see the light of day.”
During a joint Rose Garden press conference with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on Friday, President Donald Trump reiterated his claim that James Comey’s testimony showed “no collusion, no obstruction” and that it somehow vindicated him. According to The Hill, he refused to confirm whether or not there are tapes of his conversations with Comey, merely telling reporters that they would be “very disappointed” when they hear the answer.
During the same event, he confirmed that he is willing to testify about his conversations with Comey and that he would give a sworn statement to former FBI Director Robert Mueller, the special counsel appointed by the Justice Department to oversee the investigation into the possible Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
Meanwhile, Rep. Maxine Waters has been doubling down on her criticism of Donald Trump. During Comey’s testimony in front of Congress this week, the Democratic representative burned Trump through his preferred social media service: Twitter.
So Comey told Jeff Sessions he didn't want to be alone with Trump. Women across the country can relate.

Because of her fearless and frequent takedowns of Donald Trump, the 78-year-old politician, who was first elected to the California Assembly in 1976, has become a social media superstar and earned a new nickname “Auntie Maxine.”
In an interview with Glamour, Waters spoke about her plans for President Trump’s next 100 days and beyond. The California representative said that being the ranking member of the Financial Services Committee, she is focused on protecting the Dodd-Frank Act and, in particular, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, from Trump.

At the same time, she said that she is “trying to expose” the president.
“I spend an awful lot of time helping to educate people about who I think he is and the danger that I think he is to this country.”
“The most upsetting part,” Waters said, “is discovering that the person who won the election and became the president of the United States of America is a man who has no good values.”
According to the California congresswoman, President Trump offends and astounds her. She said that Trump lies, distorts, and does not seem to have an appreciation for government and how it functions. Waters also said that the president misled his voters, particularly on his main campaign promise of building a border wall.
“He talked about building a big, beautiful wall that he would make Mexico pay for. It turns out, he’s come back to the Congress of the United States asking us to pay for it. And guess what? The budget we voted on does not have a dime in it to build any wall.”
