Blake Shelton Reacts To Gwen Stefani Leaving ‘The Voice,’ Alicia Keys Confirms Future Return

Blake Shelton and Adam Levine will be returning to The Voice for Season 13 later this year but their female co-stars, Gwen Stefani and Alicia Keys, will not. Instead, the men of the show will be joined by returning coach Miley Cyrus and new coach Jennifer Hudson.

Although fans will have to say goodbye to Gwen Stefani and Alicia Keys for the moment, both Shelton and Keys confirmed she and Stefani would ultimately be returning to the NBC singing competition during future seasons.

“I’ve looked ahead,” Blake Shelton revealed to Entertainment Tonight on May 22. “This is like those Harry Potter movies. Those characters that you think are gone, then they come back. Alicia… I’ve already looked ahead on the script, and they have her coming back.”

“[Gwen Stefani] is coming back. We love Gwen,” Keys added.

Gwen Stefani came to The Voice for its seventh season and also appeared on the show’s ninth and 12th seasons. Meanwhile, Alicia Keys joined the cast during Season 11 and also appeared on Season 12. As for Blake Shelton and Adam Levine, they’ve both been featured in full-time roles since The Voice‘s first season in 2011.

As fans will recall, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani were just friends during The Voice Season 7 but during Season 9, after Shelton split from Miranda Lambert and Stefani split from Gavin Rossdale, they hit it off romantically and have been dating ever since.

Blake Shelton went on to gush over his girlfriend of about a year and a half, telling Entertainment Tonight that dating the former No Doubt frontwoman has been a rollercoaster for his ego.

“Oh my God, at some point, it kinda builds your ego up when you walk into a room with [Gwen Stefani],” Shelton admitted. “But also it’s a crashing blow to your ego when you realize all the cheers and people shouting at ya. You realize it’s not you, it’s her! But it’s still exciting at the same time. Being in the vicinity of her is unbelievable.”

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani have been spending tons of time together since their relationship began and are often seen enjoying family time with Stefani’s three sons, 10-year-old Kingston, 8-year-old Zuma, and 3-year-old Apollo.

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale welcomed three children during their 13-year marriage.

While Blake Shelton doesn’t yet have any children of his own, despite being married twice, he may be open to the idea. That said, Gwen Stefani isn’t currently pregnant, nor is she engaged to Blake Shelton as many rumors have claimed.

As his interview with Entertainment Tonight continued, Blake Shelton addressed the recent news of Kelly Clarkson’s addition to the show for its 14th season next year.

“Well, I can tell you that I used to think Miley Cyrus would be the person that talks the most, ever in the history of this show,” the singer admitted. “Now that they brought in Kelly Clarkson… oh, my God. Oh, my God. Thank God they are at least on different seasons because my ears would fall off my head. There would be no oxygen left in the room. Neither one of them can stop talking.”

Variety confirmed news of Clarkson’s addition to the show earlier this month. As fans may recall, the announcement came shortly after Clarkson was rumored to be joining the upcoming reboot of American Idol.
