Chris Daughtry Confirms Whether ‘American Idol’ Has Approached Him, If He Wants To Do It
American Idol is coming back once again, and there has been a lot of talk about Chris Daughtry possibly returning to the show as a judge. Chris didn’t win his season of American Idol, but his career has skyrocketed since his time on reality television. By not winning, Chris was able to do things his own way and start his group, Daughtry, instead of going out as a solo artist. ET got the chance to talk to Chris and find out if he wants to do the show and if Idol has even reached out to him yet about the possibility of judging this reboot.
Cameron Mathison caught up with Chris Daughtry on the red carpet at the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas on Sunday to find out if he is really joining the show. Here is what Chris revealed.
“I don’t know [if I’ll be a judge in the revivial]. I’ll say this, I’d be honored to do it. That’s all I’ll say. They actually have not approached me. So we’ll see what happens. That show means a lot to me anyway. It was the reason that people even knew who I was in the first place, so it would kind of feel like a nice full-circle thing if I was actually on the other side of that.”

Chris Daughtry may not be confirmed yet, but American Idol has been able to confirm Katy Perry for the reboot. Chris feels that she is a “great choice” for the show.
He revealed his thoughts, saying, “I don’t know what kind of stance she’s gonna take, so I could picture her being the motherly type. I could see a little bit of that. I don’t know. I could be assuming. Maybe [she’s a] wild card!”
Katy is the only judge who has officially been confirmed thus far.
There is a lot of speculation about who will join the American Idol reboot. Kelly Clarkson has already signed on to be a coach on The Voice, so it doesn’t appear that she will be doing the show. Kellie Pickler is another name that has been thrown around as a possible judge. She is busy with her new series on CMT called I Love Kellie Pickler, but Kellie might be able to find time for both.

Taylor Hicks made it clear that he doesn’t feel like Chris Daughtry is the right choice for a judge on the show. Taylor thinks that someone who didn’t win shouldn’t have the chance to give out advice. Us Weekly revealed that Taylor threw shade at Daughtry by sharing his thoughts on rumors that Chris Daughtry would be a judge. He said that a winner would be “best suited” due to the fact that what you go through when you win the show is different than if you finish third, fourth, or fifth on the show. Chris didn’t win, but his career has been amazing. Past judges on American Idol have been superstars, but not people who know how it is to win the reality show.
Taylor Hicks also revealed that he would consider being a judge if they asked him. He could have thrown this shade because he feels that he is a better choice. Taylor won the same season of American Idol that Chris Daughtry and Kellie Pickler competed in.
