‘Good Bones’ Returns For A Fun New Season Of Stunning Home Transformations

The dynamic mother-daughter duo of home renovation, Karen Laine and Mina Starsiak-Hawk, are returning for another fun season of Good Bones. Their lighthearted and humorous approach to bringing homes back to their former glory makes Good Bones very entertaining and a lot of fun to watch. Fans of the show are in for a treat, with 12 new episodes scheduled to air this season on Good Bones.

For a quick recap on how they ended up co-hosting their own HGTV series, Karen and Mina discovered they had a passion for restoring and renovating homes after working on a project together in 2007. They loved it so much that they began their own business under the name of Two Chicks and a Hammer, and now they are about to debut their second season of Good Bones on HGTV. On the new season of Good Bones, Karen and Mina are continuing their mission to find and restore rundown homes in the city of Indianapolis, which is a place they love to call home.

Mina explained during a recent interview with the Edge of Indy that she doesn’t consider what they do “flipping” homes exactly, but what they are doing is more about bringing their neighborhood back to life. She went on to explain, despite the risks involved, how they find the homes that they decide to renovate. At times Karen and Mina purchase homes sight unseen and that no one else wants to touch, which is a risky venture.

“We buy kind of what’s left — like what no one else wants, it’s like too much work” she said. “A lot of them are from the city that are on the demo list, or have just been abandoned for 10 plus years and have half a roof or half a foundation, or both.”

For the new season of Good Bones, viewers will see more of the unique and creative transformations they’ve come to expect from Karen and Mina. Mina’s imagination seems to know no bounds, and at times she even throws in an eclectic mixture of design elements that always seem to work well together. Real Screen shared that as long as a home has “good bones” they are able to strip it down to the studs, where they begin to work their renovation magic. Karen and Mina try to purchase homes for around $100,000, and then they like to invest another $100,000 into the new designs, floor plans, and finishes that each home desperately needs.

Besides filming Good Bones and renovating several homes, Mina somehow found the time to get married last summer. She tied the knot with Stephen Hawk on June 11, 2016, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Now that she is married, perhaps her husband will make an appearance or two on Good Bones. Other family members often make appearances on the show and Mina’s brother, Thad Starsiak, is part of the Good Bones crew as well.

Starcasm noted that this spring The Women’s Image Network (WIN) nominated Good Bones in two categories, “Reality Series” and “Actress in a Reality Series” at the Women’s Image Awards. Even though the show didn’t win this year, just being nominated is an honor.

“We are honored to be nominated by a network that celebrates women and the hard work they contribute to the media industry,” Two Chicks and a Hammer stated on their Instagram page. The Women’s Image Awards website states that they are a charity and since 1993, they have collaborated with advertising agencies, artists, fortune 100 and 500 companies, television networks, and movie studios to create The WIN Awards. The website adds that WIN honors both media and individuals in film, television, advertising, politics, and business who “promote gender parity through their creativity and leadership.”

On this season of Good Bones, TV Series Finale shared that Karen and Mina will take on even bigger risks, from repairing foundations to completely rebuilding homes from the ground up. Each episode will highlight how they overcome numerous construction obstacles, such as redesigning old and outdated floor plans in order to attract families with more modern tastes, to adding desirable amenities such as new kitchens, large master suites, and new outdoor areas that are perfect for entertaining.
