New Stephen King Show Heading To CBS
A new television show based on the novel Under The Dome by Stephen King will be heading to CBS in 2013.
Seattle PI reports that CBS has requested a straight-to-season order of 13 episodes. The new show will make its debut in the summer of 2013.
Nina Tassler , president of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement:
“This is a great novel coming to the television screen with outstanding auspices and in-season production values to create a summer programming event. We’re excited to transport audiences Under the Dome and into the extraordinary world that Stephen King has imagined.”
The novel tells the story of a small town that gets cut off by the world by a mysterious transparent-dome. According to Entertainment Weekly, the premise of the novel will serve as a jumping off point for the show but fans of the novel should expect new twists and turns. CBS also said that Under The Dome will not be a mini-series. The final episode of the first season is expected to leave CBS with the opportunity to extend the series.
Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment will be producing the new show while Lost scribe Brian K. Vaughan is working on the television story. Niels Arden Oplev, the director behind the Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, will direct the first episode of Under the Dome.
Several of Stephen King’s stories have been turned into movies and television shows. The Shining, The Shawshank Redemption, and Stand By Me are just a few examples.
