Mitt Romney And President Obama Eat Lunch At White House

President Obama sat down with his former election opponent Mitt Romney for lunch today at the White House.

It’s unclear what the two men talked about (the media was now allowed to take photographs or ask questions) but it is known that the two politicians dined on white turkey chili and Southwestern grilled chicken salad.

When Romney’s lunch date was reported earlier this week it was rumored that Obama was planning to offer him a position on his staff to the former Governor. A job offer was not made during lunch today but a press release from the White House states that Obama and Romney were both open to working together in the future.

The press release reads:

“The focus of their discussion was on America’s leadership in the world and the importance of maintaining that leadership position in the future. They pledged to stay in touch, particularly if opportunities to work together on shared interests arise in the future.”

White House spokesman Jay Carney said that Romney and Obama wanted to meet privately to talk about the election and the future of America. Romney congratulated Obama on his second term and the President reportedly told his former opponent that he was impressed with his concession speech.

Carney said:

“Each man wanted to have a private conversation. They did not want to turn it into a press event.”
