A date with Betty White is up for sale on eBay, with the 90-year-old actress putting herself on the auction to benefit a good cause.
The chance to win a date with Betty White is a way to raise funds for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which White has supported throughout her long career. The auction begins on Monday, with bidding starting at $1,000, CNN reported.
The winner of the date with Betty White will be allowed to bring three guests along as they have dinner at one of Betty’s favorite restaurants.
The date auction isn’t the only outside-the-box fundraising approach Betty White has taken lately. Earlier this month she joined William Shatner, Morgan Freeman, and a host of other celebrities in offering customized voicemail messages as a way to raise money for the advocacy group Autism Speaks.
From December 3 to December 9, a limited number of 20-second long MP3 messages will be recorded by the celebrities for fans to do as they wish. The idea came from Ed Asner, whose son works for Autism Speaks.
“I think people will get a charge out of it,” said Asner of the unique fundraiser. ‘’I'll probably say, ‘What are you wearing?’ Or, ‘Take it off.’ Something like that.”
When asked which celebrity he would want on his machine, Asner noted that Betty White would be a good choice.
Though now in her 10th decade, Betty White is hitting her stride in Hollywood. She enjoyed a career resurgence in the past few years, showing up on commercials, hosting Saturday Night Live, and landing on the sitcom Hot in Cleveland.
