A new trailer for Rovio’s highly anticipated video game Angry Birds Star Wars has been released online, according to Entertainment Weekly.
In the wake of Disney’s deal with LucasFilm, I’d practically forgotten about Rovio’s peculiar mash-up of Angry Birds and Star Wars. To get people talking about the game and not the next cinematic installment of the franchise, Rovio has released a brand new trailer.
It’s honestly hard not to like Angry Birds Star Wars. Judging from the clip embedded below, the company is doing George Lucas’ universe justice. It’s also quite difficult to pass negative judgment on a game that finds tiny birds flying through the air while swinging light sabers. Your preconceived notions of the title will disappear as soon as those familiar sound effects wash over you.
“May the birds be with you!” the trailer’s tagline proclaims.
Rovio is hoping the game will be downloaded by the millions. Given that both Angry Birds and Star Wars have very strong, very loyal followers, the company shouldn’t have to worry too much about its bottom line.
“This is the best ‘Angry Birds’ game we’ve ever done. It’s the best parts of ‘Angry Birds’ with all new cutting-edge gameplay set in a galaxy far, far away,” Rovio’s Peter Vesterbacka explained. “As a big ‘Star Wars’ fan myself, I’m really excited about this new universe. The Force is definitely strong with this one.”
According to USA Today, Rovio will launch a brand new line of merchandise to support its latest addictive video game experience. Expect lots of birds wearing lots of officially licensed Star Wars gear to appear on retail shelves in the coming weeks.
Angry Birds Star Wars will be available to download on November 8. The latest trailer has been embedded below. Are you looking forward to the next installment of the Angry Birds series?
