Teens find $87,000 cash in creek & turn it in to Police – Idiots

Two Australian teenagers on a fishing trip found almost $100,000 AU ($87,000 US) and after thinking about it for a while, handed it over to police.

The teens contacted the police on Friday after getting legal advice from an unidentified adult. Police are now investigating who the money might belong to and are open to the possibility that it might be “…proceeds of ill-gotten gains,” according to Inspector Greg Moore.

The money was found by the teens earlier this month near the New South Wales town of Nimbin, a location where hippies gather once a year for a festival to promote cannabis use.

Police have searched the area where the money was found but turned up no extra evidence as to who may own it. Moore said that if no-one claims the money within a reasonable amount of time, the teens may be able to keep it.
