Actress Carrie Fisher Of ‘Star Wars’ Fame Suffers Heart Attack On Transatlantic Flight, Is In Critical Condition [Video]

Sixty-year-old Star Wars actress Carrie Fischer reportedly suffered a major heart attack on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred as Fisher was flying from London to Los Angeles. While on board the plane, the actress is said to have been the victim of a “full cardiac arrest.” Other passengers on the flight have taken to social media to report that, at least for a time, she was not breathing.

As NBC News reports, actress Carrie Fisher, most famous for her role as Princess Leia, was rushed to a local hospital the moment her flight touched down at LAX, and her immediate condition was said to be “not good” by first responders. Reportedly, Fisher received life-sustaining CPR in mid-air.

The harrowing incident reportedly took place at just about 12:00 p.m. local time, with Fisher’s flight landing in Los Angeles just after noon. The Los Angeles Fire Department was waiting at the airport to transport the actress to the hospital when she landed.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Carrie Fisher was not responsive when emergency personnel removed her from her 11-hour flight to transport her to the hospital. According to the United Airlines, she was in a great deal of distress.

The pilot of flight 935 called the emergency into the LAX control tower prior to landing, telling the air traffic controllers that the flight was dealing with an “unresponsive” passenger who was being assisted by nurses who happened to be other passengers on the flight.

“So they’re working on her right now.”

In addition to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the LAPD also responded to the medical emergency surrounding the reported heart attack suffered by actress Carrie Fisher. They state that they arrived at the terminal at approximately 12:15 p.m., responding to a call of a woman in cardiac arrest. When the LAPD arrived on scene, the EMTs were still attempting to sustain Fisher’s life with CPR.

Fortunately, while Carrie Fisher was on an 11-hour flight when she suffered her cardiac arrest, the flight was only 15 minutes away from the airport when the heart attack occurred. Ms. Fisher is now reportedly on a ventilator in critical condition at a local hospital.

Carrie Fisher is considered by many to be among the “royalty” of Hollywood. The daughter of celebrity “it couple” of yesteryear, Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, Fisher rose to fame in the 1970s as Princess Leia in the Star Wars films. Prior to today’s cardiac arrest, the actress had just finished filming the latest installment of the Star Wars saga, Star Wars: Episode VIII.

In addition to being in the media spotlight for her Star Wars roles, the 60-year-old actress has also made recent Tinseltown waves with her latest book, an autobiography entitled “Princess Diarist.” In the book, reports BBC, actress Carrie Fisher claims that she had an affair with Harrison Ford, her Star Wars co-star, 40 years ago.

At the time of the alleged relationship, Ford was married to Mary Marquardt. According to Fisher, the relationship took place on set in London.

Over the course of her life in the Hollywood spotlight, Carrie Fisher has been more than “just an actress.” She has also spoken publicly about her mental health struggles and how she overcame the issues that were plaguing her. Namely, Fisher underwent controversial electroshock therapy, something she claims brought her relief from a lifetime of mental health struggles.

At this time, no further updates regarding the condition of actress Carrie Fisher have been made publicly available; her fans, co-stars, and supporters have taken to social media to send their love.
