Nina Dobrev Wished Ian Somerhalder On His Birthday [Video]
The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder recently celebrated his 38th birthday with his wife Nikki Reed. Even his former lover and co-star Nina Dobrev wished him on this joyful occasion.
At the American Music Awards 2016, along with the cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries, Nina took a chance to give birthday wishes to Ian.

Even after parting their ways, Ian and Nina never forget to wish each other on their respective birthdays. In 2013, Nina shared a cute message for Ian on her Twitter handle.

Apart from wishing each other on their respective birthdays, Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder has stated during their interviews that even after breaking up, they both remained good friends. When Nina heard about Ian’s wedding, she told Entertainment Weekly that she shares a unique bond with him and has no bad blood between them.
“I’ve said this before, that we didn’t break up because anything bad happened or because there wasn’t love or friendship. I love him and the friendship is still strong and I think he’s great and I care about him. And that didn’t change. Yes, we’re professional and that’s fine. We were friends long before we dated and we still are now.”
While Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder may not be heating up off-screen, fans of the former couple still want to see them get steamy on The Vampire Diaries Season 8 as Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore.
During Ian’s recent interview with Variety, he talked about The CW’s supernatural show’s future episodes and how he thinks the series should end.
The 38-year-old Ian admitted that at this moment, he is clueless about The Vampire Diaries‘ finale episode because showrunners Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson keeps the twist under their sleeves and reveal to the cast and crew at the last moment.
“Honestly, I think the best thing for Mystic Falls would be for these guys and all of these vampires and witches to just go away. Let Elena wake up and have these boys gone and never know any of this happened. A phenomenal, go humanity thing would be where these creatures don’t win.”
“We would love to see the two boys go down to the Caribbean somewhere and sit on a beach drinking some 60-year-old Caribbean rum, and as the sun comes up, just toast each other, give each other a hug, and take off their rings and throw them into the sea and let them just poof — turn into ash.”
“I’ve created so much death and so much violence on this show that I think it would be such an amazing win for humanity if Damon and Stefan just went bye-bye. Let’s hope it happens.”
Nina is currently busy in promoting her current action-packed film xXx: Return of Xander Cage in which she is sharing screen space with Vin Diesel, Ruby Rose, and Deepika Padukone. Many fans ofTVD can wonder that due to the hectic schedule, it would be hard for the actress to reprise her role of Elena in the finale episode of The Vampire Diaries.
In one of her earlier interview, Nina talked about her future plans and why she won’t be returning to The Vampire Diaries.
“I had decided years before that I’d go the run of my contract and I wouldn’t extend, but it was a surprise for everyone else that didn’t know that. I always knew that I’d signed up for a certain amount of time and I fulfilled it. I had a great experience, but everything has to come to an end and this was my time. It’s like high school, you do four years and then you move onto the college. “
