Mom Who Spent $1,800 On Christmas Gifts For Her Kids Defends Accusations She’s Spoiling Her Children

A mom who spent $1,800 on Christmas gifts for her kids has hit back at claims she’s “spoiling” her children by giving them so many gifts.

It’s hopeless to deny, Christmas has become grossly commercialized. To the point, many youngsters believe the real reason for the season is a big bearded guy in a red suit who squeezes down chimneys with a sack full of presents and an impressive capacity for sherry and mince pies.

Even the once sacred advent calendar has been hijacked by toy and chocolate companies and turned into a thing of gimmick rather than a thing of wonder.

It’s easy to spoil children at Christmas. In fact, big business would have you believe it’s a necessity. The prevailing mood seems to be if you don’t go big at Christmas regarding expensive gifts, then you must be some sort of dour-faced Grinch or humbug-addicted Scrooge.

Never mind the church, it’s the shopping mall where the Christmas spirt seems to spend the majority of is time these days. It’s a little weary, a little confused, and remains lost in the aisles, stumbling in a stupefied awe as it’s ruthlessly barged out of the way by glassy-eyed shoppers who believe in getting bang for their buck and little else.

Take the plight of one enthusiastic British mom who gets so caught up in the festive fancy that she buys 100 presents for each of her three children.

Last Christmas, 36-year-old Emma Tapping’s mountain of 300 presents, costing $1,800, were captured in an Instagram picture which went viral.

This year, she’s spent even more and purchased more gifts and was recently interviewed sitting in front of aforesaid presents which sit beneath her Christmas tree like a glowing testament to unbridled capitalism and material excess.

The Mirror reports that Emma was interviewed by ITV’s This Morning presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield to defend accusations from trolls who claim she’s “abusing” her children.

Emma insists that as a loving mom she is more than justified on giving her kids Mia, 14, Ella, 10, and baby Tatum a mountain’s worth of presents on Christmas day, which apparently will take roughly three hours to open.

“After Christmas, the kids asked me, ‘Is the way we spend Christmas bad?’ and I said ‘Absolutely not, because I love you!’.

“I think if I was doing it 365 days a year and giving them gifts everyday, I’d be spoiling them.

“You won’t find me out clubbing or doing Jager-bombs. Me and my husband work hard and if we choose to spend money on this one day of the year, who are you to judge?”

Although Holly and Phil couldn’t get over the size of the present mountain, Emma insists she has an eye for a bargain, she doesn’t borrow money to buy the gifts, and a lot of the presents which are bought at discount prices are all things the kids actually need for school.

“I’m an ace bargain hunter and I’m in no debt.

“I don’t use credit cards and I start buying at the beginning of the year.”

According to the Daily Mail, some of the presents Emma bought her children in Christmas 2015 still haven’t been used, but despite the picture of her tree being taken from her Instagram account last year and circulated with the caption, “Nearly time for all the materialistic parents to compete and broadcast how many presents their kids have on Facebook! Just remember there’s some children’ who don’t get much,'” Emma remains fiercely defiant to celebrate Christmas in her own way.

“When it first happened I felt like I had to stick up for the kids and say they are not spoilt. I felt I had to justify what I was doing, but now I couldn’t give a toss what anyone thinks.

“I will put a picture of my Christmas tree up this year, if you don’t like it scroll on and it is a good job I am not your mum.”

For Emma, insane amounts of presents and complete excess is what the magic of Christmas is really all about.

“I love the magic of it. I do go overboard at Christmas definitely. It is loads of presents, loads of food, stuffing your face, just relaxing having a good day.”

Meanwhile, away in a manger somewhere, there’s still no crib for a bed.

Sweet Jesus!
