Asa Robert: 20-Year-Old Man Found Guilty of Raping 82-Year-Old Woman, Faces Up To 122 Years In Prison

Asa Robert, a 20-year-old man from Brooklyn, has been found guilty of attacking and raping an 82-year-old woman at her Brighton Beach home last year. According to a report by the New York Daily News, the man was convicted on several charges including rape, sexual abuse, and assault by acting Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.

The incident that eventually ended in Robert’s conviction dates back to July 13, 2015. According to reports, Robert allegedly entered the elderly woman’s apartment on the night of July 13 while she was out to dispose trash. Once the unsuspecting woman returned to her home and prepared to go to bed, she found Robert hiding inside her bedroom. Even though the woman tried to raise an alarm by yelling at the intruder, her screams were not audible to anyone outside.

Seizing the opportunity, Robert allegedly grabbed the elderly woman by her neck and forced her onto the bed. He then held a knife to her face and threatened her of dire consequences if she did not submit to his demands. The woman was also reportedly punched in the chest shortly after this. Robert also started demanding money from her – as he tried to tie her hands behind her back. Once the woman was tied up, he started ransacking the bedroom in order to look for any valuables he could find. When he could not find much, he allegedly dragged the elderly woman into the kitchen and assaulted her. Still not done, he then took her back to the bedroom and raped and sodomized her. Before leaving, he also warned the woman to not report the matter to the police. Robert was able to escape with a small bag that contained some personal items belonging to the woman.

After Robert left the premises, the woman quickly called her relatives and family members, who then contacted 911. Shortly thereafter, she was transported to the Kings County Hospital where she was treated for her injuries. Meanwhile, authorities started a manhunt for Robert who was eventually caught four days after he committed the crime. Robert was found hiding inside the kitchen of a home. He was subsequently arrested and charged with several counts of assault, abuse, and rape.

The trial continued on for more than a year and earlier today, Asa Robert was found guilty and was convicted of first-degree rape and first-degree criminal sexual act. Last week, he was also found guilty of first-degree sexual abuse, second-degree assault, first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, second-degree burglary and two counts of second-degree criminal trespass. Asa has not been sentenced yet. He faces up to 122 years in jail. Whether that would happen or not would only be revealed on January 10 when the sentencing is scheduled to take place.

As for the victim, she is still shaken by the experience and in a recent court appearance even confronted Robert face to face in spite of being in poor health. In fact, on several of her court appearances, she had to be brought in on a wheelchair.

The woman also gave a detailed account of the entire incident that took place on the day. She also revealed that it took her a while to disclose what had happened to her – even to her family members. The police were initially not told about the sexual assault. It was only after the woman confided to her daughter that officials figured out that the woman had been raped. In an earlier court appearance, she also revealed that her ordeal with Asa Robert lasted for more than 4.5 hours.

“This was the most disgusting thing that has ever happened to me. He was on top of me like a pile of bricks. It felt like he was trying to crush me to death.” she told jurors as she recounted her horrific experience.
